Whether you are planning an event for work or a dinner party at your house there are three pieces of party advice to live by!
The first key piece of advice is to plan in enough detail so that you can relax an enjoy the party! The biggest issue with hosting an event is that you are the person who is shouldering the responsibility for making sure that everything goes smoothly. The unfortunate byproduct of this, is that oftentimes it is very difficult to live in the moment and have fun at your own party! So, the best way to fix this issue before it even becomes one, it to plan your event beforehand. Be honest with yourself about what level of organization that looks like! If you need to make a list and check things off, go for it! If you need a spreadsheet of details that you review prior, then make that happen. Walking into your event knowing exactly what needs to happen, and who is in charge of each item will make things run smoothly, and that will allow you to enjoy the party too!
That leads me to the second piece of advice! Delegate tasks beforehand so that everybody knows their role. You might be giving tasks to your employees or coordinating with your partner and kids, either way it takes away the stress of feeling like you need to do everything yourself. A great example of this is a recent event that I organized for the holidays. I tasked one person with setting out food, and another with greeting people as they walked in the door, while I coordinated some last minute details. We were able to make people feel welcome from the first moment that they walked in the door, and had the appetizers ready to go! You might have some superpowers but splitting up tasks and conquering things with help is always the way to go!
Lastly, plan something so that your guests will leave with a smile on their face! This can look very different based on whether your event is a corporate event or a family event, but I have a fun story for both instances. For the holiday event that I was talking about previously, we planned an awesome raffle for the end of the night. Everyone was so excited as they were leaving, talking about who won and how great the night was overall. As an event planner, hearing those comments was absolute gold. They had no idea what went into making the evening a success, but they left happy and that was the whole goal.
But it doesn’t have to be a monetary thing, it can also just be something thoughtful. For a recent family event, I had a bag of tupperware ready for my family to take home leftovers. They were so excited to be able to take home food, and not have to cook for lunch the next day. Use your creativity and come up with your own idea! Maybe a cute little note thanking everyone for coming, or a little grab bag of treats for the ride home.
I think one of the most powerful things about an event is that it offers an opportunity for connection. So the goal of these 3 pieces of advice are to help you get the most out of the moment, to be present and to have just as much fun as your guests. At The Fancy Dime, we have created a line of sugarcane disposable products that are meant to simplify process in our own small way. So here is to your next party! We hope you have a wonderful time!
